Dementia & Dad – 1 Step Forward/ 3 Steps Backward

As expected Dad’s condition  has continued to degrade. His speech is the obvious one in that he can only string a few words together and is very difficult to understand. This makes for very quiet sessions with him and usually has us talking about weather or the food & drink he is consuming at that time. I tend to allow him to retain his dignity by using indirect language that is not specific to what he is saying. For example he may talk some jibberish. I will respond with “what do…

The Masters Apprentices – Plenty of Connection

This article has been saved since the late 80’s and is a treasured piece of memorabilia. I am a big fan of the Apprentices as they were an Adelaide Band that has produced 5 successful albums through the 60’s and a friend of mine Meg Tilbrook, is the daughter of band member Peter Tilbrook. I also have another connection in that on my 40th birthday party my parents sneakily arranged for original bass player, Gavin Webb to attend my Western party at the Charleston Hotel and had him jam with my…

Beatlemania Changes Adelaide Forever

Here’s one for the Beatles Fans…. I was doing a night of house sitting in a very expensive townhouse on the outskirts of Adelaide many years ago. Bushfire Victim – Offers Candid Insight

I took my 14 yo son Zak and two of his friends to the Gumeracha Fire Ground to experience the damage, and also challenge them to capture the ‘essence’ of the bushfire and the subsequent destruction in photographs. We reached the entrance to the State Forest and straight away were confronted by rows of charred pine trees, and a strong smell of smoke. The trees were up to 80 ft high and were stripped of their foliage and bark and replaced with black charcoal. The boys really reacted to the sombre environment…
