Bushrangers are the New Black

I never thought I would see the day an online store ( The Iconic) would be catering for young bushrangers. I know fashion changes and is cyclical but I do not really feel comfortable wearing a metal can on my head to work! Talk about marketing to a niche market….what about !’Mr Simple’ who is so simple he doesn’t have a shirt or belt, but has the airbrushed abs. And what about ‘Shaggy’ down the bottom? Flashing his “I don’t care about anything” shag pile, designer stubble and “Whateva!” hunched…

My Daily Dose of Dementia

My Dad’s Aged Care home is a place that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Each day I could be sad, frustrated, shocked, challenged, inspired, mad, happy, excited, overwhelmed and so much more. People pass away each week, others lose more of their memory, and a lotta sad stuff happens. But what you may not know is a lotta funny stuff happens each day, and I am in stitches most of the time. I thought I would share some of the conversations I have and hear each day: *Martha…

Rabbits in the Headlights – A Dad Story

Casanova Max was ‘hanging out’ with new girlfriend, Hannah, at her place recently. Her Dad dropped Max back to our house late at night, and I went outside to wave from the front door. Hannah’s Dad stayed in the car as the two lovebirds were on the driveway between the two Dads. The very bright driveway sensor light went on and we had a ‘standoff’. Things got awkward because the lovebirds were looking to have a ‘hug’ and Max was gesturing for me to go inside. I was oblivious to…

Is this the Fussiest Person in Australia?

The person below ( let’s call her ‘Eastern Suburbs Jane’) now orders her ham & cheese focaccia’s by HEIGHT! She asked me to buy her a 19mm high focaccia that she always get from the same shop. The guy in the shop thought I was insane, and regretfully advised he was outta stock. He decided to grab a thicker focaccia and remove a few millimetres from top and bottom of the inferior focaccia and said ” she wont know the difference”. I beg to differ. Upon my return with lunch…

My New ‘Dementia Adventure’

Today I am 47! I wanted to give myself a birthday present by taking this opportunity to thank YOU (all my friends, family and colleagues) for your support during a pretty tough year for the Partingtons. It has been really comforting and therapeutic to be able to ‘share stuff’ with such a caring and open minded audience. As many of you know, I have poured out my entire life via Facebook (and my blog) over the last 12 months. I have tried to keep things real, make you laugh, make…

What Comes First?….The Chicken or the Egg?

After the recent episode with our frisky 12yo son Max being caught ‘manhandling’ the girls at school with hugs, I am not sure that a sex education lesson two days later is appropriate!:-) I am also reminded of the time back at Max’s old primary school when we attended a sex education night as a family. Max was very enthusiastic this night with the Q & A section and would shoot his hand up as high as he could almost begging to be asked to answer each question. The educator…

Drinks with the Finks

It’s not everyday you get to spend an evening with an outlaw motorcycle gang but a few years back, Dad and I did just that. We have always enjoyed going to the boxing (and kickboxing) and decided to watch the Kosta Tszyu fight on the big screens at the Port Adelaide Football Clubrooms at Alberton. We arrived early and were rapt when we positioned ourselves at the most central table right in front of the biggest TV screen. We enjoyed bantering with a few of the patrons, soaking up the…

12 Inches of Temptation

Our youngest 12yo sonĀ ‘ Casanova Max’ is up to his old tricks again. We received the text below from Max in regard to breaking Rule 34a of the School Student Code of Conduct. Max had breached the 30cm student ‘exclusion’ zone by stealing hugs at lunchtime with one of the young ladies. I like the way he pleads ignorance to breaching the rule when less than 24 hours before he told us the rule and was proudly boasting of 4 hugs in a lunch session. We are getting real value…
