Zak Takes on Wedding & Wins

Very proud of my 15yo son Zak Partington who recently took on the challenge and responsibility of filming and producing a wedding video for a couple who were married at Grange Golf Club recently. Zak and a friend were innovative and placed an advert on Gum Tree and were hired to take on their first official video job . All of the wedding guests were told not to use their phones throughout the day & night as they had ‘official videographers’ on the job….no pressure! The boys did not know…

‘Air Max’…..Shooting For The Stars

Very impressed with Max Partington and his freshly honed basketball skills. After waiting many weeks for his his new basketball ring to be assembled, and paving to be done to give him a flat area to practice, he is now killing it! Max has put the hours in and now mastered some amazing offensive moves and is extremely hard to defend. His shooting has improved out of sight and his defence is really taking shape. Now that he is playing Under 18’s (at age 13), he will learn to throw his…

Pythagoras Partington

Very proud of Zak Partington this week. He has started a regular revision program (in the holidays) of his worst subject at school….MATHS! He literally hates the subject, and hates giving up holidays for schoolwork, but is taking it on and winning. It was amazing to work with him last night and see a rare moment when he just ‘gets it (and be so excited he voluntarily knocks out another 15 correct examples) ‘. In the one session he managed to learn Cos, Sine & Tan formulas whilst using…

Teenager for Hire

This is my oldest son Zak who is 15. He is a great lad who is polite, inquisitive and enjoys helping others. He is not sure what he wants to do when he leaves school in a few years, but is looking for some work experience or perhaps a regular/casual job during the school holidays. During this year (on the weekends) Zak has been doing gardening, odd jobs and irrigation work for some local Woodside residents, volunteered at events for a nursing home and also for Alzheimer’s Australia. Zak also…

The ‘Real Story’ of Adelaide’s Homeless People

On Friday Zak and I became homeless. Not literally, but for lunch we visited the Westcare Centre near Whitmore Square and joined 100 of Adelaide’s people who are ‘sleeping rough’ to gain insight into what it’s like to live below the poverty line. We arrived in the quiet city laneway about 15 minutes early and we were both extremely nervous. Zak was worried if his meal was going to be nice enough and I was worried about fitting in with the pretty rough crowd. I decided to…

Argo on Parade – I Know What The Fuss is all About… (cafe review)

This cafe has had crowds and lineups outside ever since they opened. I drive past it everyday and always wondered why it is continually booming when the rest of retail and hospitality is in a flat spin? Zak and I decided to test out Argo Cafe during our 48 hour ‘Bloke Blitz’ last Saturday morning. The atmosphere was buzzing with staggeringly good looking people that enjoy a chat and a good coffee…so we fitted in just beautifully!:) The clipboard menu has heaps of delicious (and sweet)…

48 Hour – ‘Bloke Blitz’

What ya thinking?….beer, snags, sport, bar room brawls? Not quite, this time. Wanted to bond 1-on-1 with my nearly 15yo son Zak, and learn all about him at close range before he heads back to school. Our plan was to do as much guy stuff as we can in ‘48 hours’ and record it on our new GoPro Hero 4 Silver video camera. The aim was to simply let our surroundings take us wherever, and create a doco style movie as a team. The only rules were that we had…

Teenagers of Today

Zak & I have spent another weekend together (Max & Tanya are away). We decided to reseal the slate floors which run thru our entire home. I thought this may score me some points with Tanya as well as being a good mentoring session for Zak, and a chance for him to earn some cold hard cash. Below is a pic of how he set up his room for the night (he had to move into our sleepout due to the sealer fumes). Note the 3 computer screens,…
